1 Sam. 26 Battle belongs to the Lord

Ziphites came to inform Saul that David is hiding there in Hachila. They can just bind David and bring him to Saul. They didn't do it because they knew that David is a great warrior. Yet why did they inform about him? Do they have any enmity with him? No they didn't. Still they want to inform Saul because they want the favor of the ruler. "Many seeks the ruler's favor". Pro. 29:26.

I am happy that Solomon used the word "many" and not "All". By using the word "many" he is also saying that there are other "many" who do not seek the ruler's favor. In these two categories, Ziphites, by seeking ruler's favor they fall into the danger of joining the group of those who seek the ruler's favor and they did not see that David is in other group who seeks the favor of the Lord. Their innocent step brought them a curse from David, a man of God. He said to Saul, " ...if men have instigated this, may they be cursed before the LORD"-1 Sam. 26:19.

Soon after he heard where David is, Saul took 3000 men with him to seize David who had not even a thousand people with him. (1 Sam. 27:2). Saul doesn't know that God will never save by the number. He did not have the knowledge that his own son Jonathan had. Once Jonathan said to his armer-bearer "“Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men... Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” 1Sam. 14:6.

Amaziah also hired a 100,000 fighters from Israel. Then a man of God came and see what he has said. "...these troops from Israel must not march with you, for the Lord is not with Israel... Even if you go and fight courageously in battle, God will overthrow you before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to overthrow.” 1Chr. 25:6-8.

I am in the category of those who seek the favor of the Lord to whom, the battle belongs to. I hope you too. ("but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe. " Pr. 29:25)
